AU Jal Bank initiative - Our water coolers in new avtaar

Rajasthan is the desert state of our country and experiences extreme summers with heatwaves. A lot of commuters in the state belong to low-income groups who travel by buses and trains. Hence, the availability of potable water becomes a necessity at these public places, especially during the scorching summers. Most passengers from low-income groups can’t afford to pay for water which further intensifies the problem. Taking into account this scenario, we decided to do something about this situation. After much reflection, the bank decided to make cold and clean water available to people in public areas of high need. As a result, AU Small Finance Bank launched AU Jal Bank, an initiative to address this challenge by installing water coolers in public areas.

AU Foundation has been facilitating the installation of water coolers by identifying areas and taking care of other related activities. Water coolers with a new design have been introduced recently, and we hope the new design and new journey bring about the desired change, and we serve more and more people. Already 100 water coolers with the new design have been installed at several locations. We are also rebranding the old water coolers with the new design.

More than 300 water coolers have been installed to date. Out of these, more than 250 water coolers have been installed in Rajasthan and 50 in neighboring states. Looking at the need for safe water in Rajasthan maximum number of installations have been done in the state. Water coolers have been installed in 10 districts of Rajasthan viz. Jaipur, Jhunjhunu, Sikar, Barmer, Ajmer, Udaipur, Sri Ganganagar, Tonk, Baran, and Sirohi. Apart from Rajasthan, other states where water coolers have been installed as part of AU Jal Bank are Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Punjab. We have installed water coolers in public areas to ensure maximum and proper usage. Such areas comprise Bus Stands, Railway Stations, Schools, Gram Panchayats, Hospitals, Gaushala, and other public places.

Just installing water coolers is not enough. They have to be maintained too to serve the purpose rightly. Hence, we have taken support from residents who act as caregivers and ensure the proper functioning of the water coolers. They look after the cleanliness, electricity supply, and availability of drinking water. We can counter this problem only through collective efforts and help provide fellow citizens with potable drinking water.

Safe water supply is the need of the hour. It is an issue that needs to be addressed on priority. Through AU Jal Bank, we aim to mitigate the problem by making potable water accessible to people in public areas and bring positive badlaav.
